The typical Italian summer weather put 40 runners (with 33 actual finishers L) to the test at the 64th Roma Pineto parkrun. However, their efforts were rewarded by Emanuele Musolino’s (from Foto4go) beautiful photos as he once again popped by to see us.
It was a day of return visits: Primarily that of our course record holder Martin LYNAS who wanted to try his luck again at Pineto before he returns home to Scotland. The Parco del Pineto obviously does not like being left behind so decided to stop him with a twisted ankle. Fortunately, there was no real harm done, but this may see him choose to return one last time this coming Saturday in order to complete his usual solitary first place finish.
In any case, we wanted to thank him for the time he has spent in with us in Rome with this commemorative poster of his parkrun highlights at Pineto!
Regular first finisher Luigi DE LUCA made the most of Martin showing up by deciding to take up the mantle of Run Director… Even though it seems as if he only turned up to sunbathe with the Event Director!
With Luigi and Martin out of the running for differing reasons, it fell to Pineto regular Stefano BOLOGNESI to lead in the pack made up of Sergio COCOZZA, Renzo MANSUETI and Gabriele FIORANI.
The fastest woman on the day was once again Giuseppina SORRENTI.
Getting back to our theme of return visits: for half of our group of 7 tourists were not first timers on the Pineto course. The Irishman Alan DOLAN came back to see us for the first time since February and Tim WARNER returned for the 3rd week in a row (once again bettering his PB). Bob HARLOW on his 10th visit to Roma Pineto parkrun was the veteran of the day with his 145 parkruns.
We had the pleasure of a long post parkrun chat and coffee with Gareth REES, a veteran parkrunner (since 2010) who now runs intermittently at Bushy park, the home of parkrun, but previously distinguished himself as a very avid parkrun tourist!
In contrast with Gareth, Siddharth and Saurabh BHANDARI took part in their first parkrun away from their homerun near Manchester. We hope that they had a great time, and that young Siddharth will soon hit his 50-parkrun target, which is not far on the horizon.
We’ve mentioned various comebacks today and we couldn’t not mention our regular runner Beatrice TONINI who returned to the fold after 2 particularly busy months. Beatrice always stands out for her attempts to bring our post run snacks in line with the nutitional ideals of a runner rather than the gluttonous excesses that we usually have on display (with only limited results :-D)
We will be meeting up as usual this coming Saturday 22nd June at 8:45am for a prompt 9am start: Parco del Pineto, Via Montiglio entrance.
