On Saturday 51 runners met up to run the 56th Roma Pineto parkrun and celebrate Easter by running, walking and of course EATING.
Twelve of those present were tourists from England and Scotland, some of whom were particularly speedy. Will KERR, having closely tailed our Luigi DE LUCA during the first lap, let loose for the second half and put into practice all the trail running experience gained with his local team (the Saltaire Striders), to post the second fastest time we have ever seen at Roma Pineto parkrun. Luigi, despite fading towards the end can however celebrate a new PB.
The desire to set a faster time was not the only motivation today: there was also the race to reach the traditional Napolitan Easter cake and the corallina salami that were waiting at the finish. Many seemed to quicken their pace for this very reason. This was certainly the case with Stefano BOLOGNESI who posted a new PB of exactly 20 minutes.
Even more impressive was the performance of Giuseppina SORRENTI who took 15 seconds off the PB that she set only a week before and climbs into second place in the all-time age category ratings.
Rodolfo BUTTARELLI also bettered his time in the space of a week taking a single second off his previous best.
Some other significant PBs came from some regular tourists who we consider part of the family: Sacha ROSSI lowered his time by 3 minutes on his 11th visit to us in Rome, while Carolyne KRAMAR shaved another minute off her impressive time from 2 weeks ago. Carolyne who has run 15 times Roma Pineto parkrun is now considered a fully-fledged “local”.
As we mentioned at the start the list of improved times is particularly long and besides those already mentioned we must add: Marco TORNARI, Claudio DI ROCCO, Gilberto BURGIO, Antonio GRILLI, Gianluca LAQUIDARA and Gianluca ROSSETTI. This group photo celebrates all of their efforts:
Returning to our tourist friends, Steve and Zena WHALLEY were by a long way the veterans of the day with over 200 parkruns each: 210 for him and 205 for Zena.
Instead, Mark LAIKIN, having run in Padua at Farfalle parkrun the week before, celebrated his birthday with us running with his son Noah.
Mark is a fine example of how parkrun is something that the whole family can enjoy, which is yet another reason to join us on Saturday 27th for 5km through the Parco del Pineto! We will be meeting as always at the via Vittorio Montiglio entrance, at 8:45 (for a 9am start).
