Spring had well and truly sprung for the 44 parkrunners that had gathered for the 52nd Roma Pineto parkrun.
The almost summery weather brought us a few extra tourists, all 7 of them hailing from England.
It was a pleasure to meet Drew K FORREST who while chatting candidly with our volunteer Luciano GIOVANNINI, who was proudly sporting a Liverpool Marathon shirt, mentioned that his brother (Terrence Forrest) had actually won that edition!
In terms of total number of parkruns, Caroline TUCK was way out in front with 223 parkruns to her name. Caroline, an avid parkrun tourist, could have been the first woman to finish had she not been slowed down by a tumble during the second lap.
Cristina IMBUCATURA took full advantage and, paced by her husband Graziano, was the fastest on the day.
Sadly, Caroline’s misadventure was not the only fall of the day :-(
Perhaps it was the curse of the Run Director’s ominous reminders to be careful during the briefing. He mentioned the location of several tree roots but that in any case we always have a full first kit on hand, which we ended up having to use three times on scraped knees. Our victims ranged from the youngest runner, little Evie Brandon to the veteran Aldo Zaino who had come to us in his triple capacity as runner, photographer and reporter (you can view his article for last Saturday here).
Despite the challenge our course always poses, the fastest runners flew round as usual unfazed by the tree roots: Lorenzo FRESCHI came back for his 2nd run and managed to shave 30 seconds from his time aided by Luigi DE LUCA in pacer mode.
But Lorenzo was not the only improvement that we saw: the PB bell was also rung by Emanuele ZANGRILLI (in the photo), Alvaro DE SANTIS, Gilberto BURGIO and Holly BRADON who got her own back for the trip up suffered by her little sister.
For the 52nd Roma Pineto parkrun, we welcomed a variety of walkers, led by Giovanni GABOARDI who has clocked up almost 500 marathons! His next parkrun will represent a slightly less incredible achievement but one certainly worth celebrating: He will reach his 50th parkrun milestone.
This coming Saturday you can celebrate with him, we will be meeting up as usual at the Parco del Pineto, via Vittorio Montiglio entrance, at 8:45 (for a 9am start).
