The presence of 8 tourists from Australia, France, England e Scotland, boosted our numbers to 29 parkrunners who took on our regular 5km run/walk, immortalised once again by Emanuele Musolino’s beautiful photos.
Among our English guests, the Rose family stands out in particular with three of them running today. In addition to Clare and young Harry, his brother Daniel ROSE took part in his first ever parkrun, which he finished with an impressive sprint finish. Let’s hope that this is just the start of things for him.
It was Daniel’s first parkrun, but for James BENHAM (Saturday’s veteran) it was his 219th! James usually runs in Exeter but last week he also paid a visit to our friends at Firenze parkrun, running together with Rob and Gemma as part of their parkrun “giro d’Italia”.
Even though the summer heat has decidedly reduced the number of locals, we were very happy to welcome four new entries. One of these, Elettra CARINI, ended up as the fastest woman.
Instead, it was the usual story for the men, as Luigi De Luca concluded his efforts with an ample margin, allowing him to get his breath back before taking on the role of token scanner.
Although the weather is still not particularly inducive for running, we did see 3 improvements on previous times: Roberta PASTORINO who abandoned her position as timekeeper for only the second time to run her home parkrun, Carolyne KRAMAR who takes another step closer to 35 minutes and Juan Francisco FRANCO. The latter, paced by his identical twin, took a massive two and a half minutes off the time he ran during his last visit to Rome, finishing 4th in 23:25… it’s lucky he doesn’t run very often!
Finally we must thank all our volunteers, who every week grow in numbers and allow us to put on parkrun every Saturday! In particular those who having plans to run a race that evening and the following morning, turned up in flip-flops and holiday clothes so that they would not be tempted to run.
Next week we expect you all back en masse as the holidays draw to a close! We will meet up as usual at Parco del Pineto, via Vittorio Montiglio entrance, at 8:40 (in order to start at 9am).
