Roma Pineto parkrun #038: 22nd December

English translation by Jennifer Stripe

Despite a few drops of rain we gave our all at the 38th Roma Pineto parkrun, where 31 parkrunners met up to exchange Christmas greetings.

Emanuele Musolino appeared, as he often does on the gloomiest days,to immortalise our efforts. You can view all his photos by following this link.

The Christmas spirit was summed up perfectly by the numerous Santas present. Some of them unhindered by their costumes even managed to post respectable times, such as Severina FERRANTINI who set a new personal best.

But the Father Christmas par excellence was Luigi DE LUCA who, having nobody to spur him on took a breather at the end of the first lap with spectators and the Run Director (showing the utmost seriousness for which we are renowned) and finished proceedings dab dance style.

The fastest woman was Laura Antico, encouraged by her coach Sergio COCOZZA. A great performance by her considering it came off the back of a difficult cross country "Corri per il verde" in which she gave a very good showing.

One of our faithful regulars, the master runner Marco BRUNO, presented our Event Director with a copy of his book, which narrates his running adventures (including the climb up Mont Blanc and the Passatore 100km). He also presented us with a fine PB and record for his age category at Roma Pineto parkrun.

To complete the list of improvements on Saturday (all of whom deserve an extra round of applause in view of the muddy conditions) we must mention Serena MAGGI, the sister of our regular, Andrea.

Tourists were few on the ground on Saturday, but the usual international blend was guaranteed by the Irishman Alan Dolan and the Italian expat Federico FORTI (in the photo below).

In the absence of any established foreign parkrunners, the veteran of the day was our Fabio Antonelli with his 34 events. It couldn't have happened on a better day:on Saturday we celebrated his entry into the v25 club dedicated to those who have offered their services as a volunteer 25 times.

As always, we'll beat Parco del Pineto on the 29th, attempting to burn off the festive excesses. Don't miss out! Meeting at the via Vittorio Montiglio entrance at 8:40 (for a 9am start)!
