Roma Pineto parkun #46: 9th February

Saturday proved to be a splendid sunny morning and Roma Pineto parkrun played host to many foreign visitors particularly those from Wales. It was a great privilege to be the Italian parkrun recommended in England for the Six Nations rugby tournament, parkrun being one of the elements that all the host cities have in common.

Amongst the 53 parkrunners not only the Welsh were present, but also tourists from England, Ireland, Scotland, Russia and Poland.

And it was the Polish element that gave a very impressive showing with Mateusz MORAWA finishing in second place at his first tourist parkrun.

Ahead of him, as usual, came Luigi DE LUCA, seemingly unfazed by the half marathon that was awaiting him the following day.

The first lap was led by Simone PICCHI, who managed to maintain the pace for the second time around and thus set a new personal record.

Turning to the ladies, Giuseppina SORRENTI was the fastest on the day but Jenny STRIPE was not far behind setting a new PB having come close two weeks previously.

Vincenzo BITTI’s improvements have been remarkable: after dipping under the 28-minute mark last week, he managed to take off a further minute and a half on Saturday.

The other PBs to celebrate, in order of arrival, belong to: Regina VARA, Riccardo VASSALLO (seen here taking on some advice from our top runner :-D) and one of our walkers Daniela BRUGNOLI.

As part of the Welsh contingent, we had the entire MUGFORD family descend upon our parkrun. Brian William MUGFORD was the veteran of the day with 295 parkruns under his belt.

But a special round of applause must go to Laura MAGFORD, who having moved to Dresden in Germany, recent became the ED of the new parkrun there (Pieschener Allee parkrun) . We wish them all the best as their event grows and becomes more established.

Finally, the 46th Roma Pineto Parkrun was also particularly festive as we thanked three regular volunteers as they joined the V25 club: our very own Rodrigo Alejandro Franco, Marco Fugà and Luigi De Luca.

Roma Pineto parkun #46: 9 febbraio

English version

Roma Pineto parkrun #045: 2nd February

Go to Italian version

English translation by Jennifer Stripe

The 45th Roma Pineto parkrun was held with extreme weatherconditions at the very limit of what is feasible for our course, as the following video shows.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BtYhc4llwXG

Despite the downpour and mudbath,9 brave or perhaps foolish parkrunners took on the challenge once again. Amongst them there were two English tourists and one from Scotland, who in theory should be used to such conditions. After our Luigi DE LUCA, 2nd placed Alex Witty was the day's veteran on 192 parkruns. We also know of another English tourist who set out to join us by jogging to the start and unfortunately lost his way in the tempest :-)

On a day such as this we owe an extra special thanks to all our volunteers who made it possible to run safely this time around.

On Saturday the 9th the sun should returnand perhaps be joined by some Welsh six nations fans. We hope to see all of you at the Parco del Pineto, ingresso di via Vittorio Montiglio, alle 8e40 (con partenza alle 9).

Roma Pineto parkrun #045: 2 febbraio

https://www.instagram.com/p/BtYhc4llwXG

Roma Pineto parkrun #044: 26th January

After days of rain, we thankfully had a welcome let up on Saturday morning and thus 22 parkrunners were able to battle against the cold at the 44th Roma Pineto parkrun. We were lucky to have with us both Emanuele Musolino from foto4go (here the galleries with his photos) and the running commentator Aldo Zaino who also wrote us a lovely report of our morning’s efforts (link).

There were various English speakers, who have become regular attendees and just one couple of real tourists: From England Laura WHITE, who was the veteran of the day with her 73 parkruns, and her partner who is an unofficial parkrunner.

roma_pineto_parkrun44-96

Considering the shortage of new entries, it was no surprise that the fastest runners on Saturday were two of our long-term supporters, namely Luigi DE LUCA and Jenny STRIPE.

roma_pineto_parkrun44-187

New blood came in the form of Alberto RAVANETTI who had a strong athletics career in his youth. Perhaps in future Alberto will try and reach the times he used to run for 5km on our challenging course

roma_pineto_parkrun44-115

The terrain was rather muddy in places and this limited the possibility of PBs, therefore Vincenzo BITTI deserves an extra round of applause for managing to dip under 28 minutes despite the conditions.

roma_pineto_parkrun44-100

On Saturday, we also had a special guest: Mauro FIRMANI, the “General” of the marathon truppen pacing team, who was looking for a suitable route for a long group training run as part of the preparation for the Rome Marathon on the 7th April. Don’t worry everyone, these extra-long runs will not be held on our cross country/ trail course, but there is the possibility that it will be in the local area. Stay tuned for further news!

roma_pineto_parkrun44-169

Both for those who are preparing a marathon or a shorter distance there are many reasons to come and run with us (if you still don’t believe us there is a totally unbiased list here with ten excellent reasons).

As usual, we will be meeting up next Saturday at the Parco del Pineto, via Vittorio Montiglio entrance at 8:40 (for a 9am start).
