Saturday proved to be a splendid sunny morning and Roma Pineto parkrun played host to many foreign visitors particularly those from Wales. It was a great privilege to be the Italian parkrun recommended in England for the Six Nations rugby tournament, parkrun being one of the elements that all the host cities have in common.
Amongst the 53 parkrunners not only the Welsh were present, but also tourists from England, Ireland, Scotland, Russia and Poland.
And it was the Polish element that gave a very impressive showing with Mateusz MORAWA finishing in second place at his first tourist parkrun.
Ahead of him, as usual, came Luigi DE LUCA, seemingly unfazed by the half marathon that was awaiting him the following day.
The first lap was led by Simone PICCHI, who managed to maintain the pace for the second time around and thus set a new personal record.
Turning to the ladies, Giuseppina SORRENTI was the fastest on the day but Jenny STRIPE was not far behind setting a new PB having come close two weeks previously.
Vincenzo BITTI’s improvements have been remarkable: after dipping under the 28-minute mark last week, he managed to take off a further minute and a half on Saturday.
The other PBs to celebrate, in order of arrival, belong to: Regina VARA, Riccardo VASSALLO (seen here taking on some advice from our top runner :-D) and one of our walkers Daniela BRUGNOLI.
As part of the Welsh contingent, we had the entire MUGFORD family descend upon our parkrun. Brian William MUGFORD was the veteran of the day with 295 parkruns under his belt.
But a special round of applause must go to Laura MAGFORD, who having moved to Dresden in Germany, recent became the ED of the new parkrun there (Pieschener Allee parkrun) . We wish them all the best as their event grows and becomes more established.
Finally, the 46th Roma Pineto Parkrun was also particularly festive as we thanked three regular volunteers as they joined the V25 club: our very own Rodrigo Alejandro Franco, Marco Fugà and Luigi De Luca.
We hope to see you all again, this Saturday at the Parco del Pineto, via Vittorio Montiglio entrance, at 8:45 (for a 9am start).
